Kūlia I Ka Pūnāwai, the Kumu Hula Association of Southern California, holds a Hula Camp every year. This event is meant to gather Kumu from the association, with hālau all across Southern California, to share their ʻike (knowledge) to others. Anyone is invited to this event and we have had students come from all over the country! A variety of classes are held including hula kahiko and ʻauana, crafts, ʻōlelo (language) & seminars of Hawaiian history and culture. This event used to be held in Malibu at the Gindling Hilltop Camp, however it was very unfortunately destroyed by fire in 2018. Since then, Hula Camp has been held at the Carson Convention Center. This is normally an annual event, but was cancelled in 2021 & 2022. Hopefully it will be back in 2023!
